Anonymous asked: I don't know if your definition - even restructured - quite covers it. Sexism is at the root of a lot of things as the hatred and discrimination of the feminine. Sexism is at the root of homophobia, cissexism, transphobia, or even instances experienced by straight cis men who partake in "feminine" activities. I think you have the right idea, its just important to note that sexism is even bigger than just limiting opportunities and rights.
I don’t agree with you that sexism lies at the root of homophobia, cissexism or transphobia. They are separate (if often coinciding) issues. I think boiling them all down to sexism is a big mistake.
A lot of these isms however do boil down to devaluing feminine characteristics. I don’t think it’s the root to all of it, but there are definitely aspects of sexism in each one.
There are aspects, sure, but i don’t think it’s helpful to centre these problems around “hatred of the feminine”. I think it misunderstands how those modes of oppression word and affect people and, ultimately, i think it’s harmful.

Thank you for this. Cissexism/transphobia is not about the devaluation of the feminine, it’s about the idea that bodies=gender. It doesn’t matter which body, gender, or expression is valued more, just that are expected to align in specific ways.

i think they all boil down to the same thing - racism and ableism too. all of them boil down to this little thing in the middle, but i dont know what it is. all i know is you have to care about all of them, otherwise theres no point caring about one.
