You mentioned that sexism is women compared to men. Traditionally it’s thought that way between the two sexes, but shouldn’t it also extend to Trans and others as well who may not self define as male or female as well? Thanks for your thoughts!

I was in two minds about how to define sexism in that post. I agree that women are not the only people who are disadvantaged by the mechanisms of a society that privileges men, masculinity and maleness—but i have some reservations about naming the discrimination that trans* folks and genderqueer or other nonbinary people face as just ‘sexism’. These individuals face an additional level of oppression—based on the erroneous belief that their identities are inauthentic or less important than cis identities—and to lump cissexism in with sexism would be to erase that difference. It would not be a good thing.
But you are right that it’s not just women who are affected by sexism, and that that doesn’t come across in my post as well as i had hoped it would. I’ve edited it—it now reads
“Sexism is anything that manifests in a way that affords fewer opportunities, rights and freedoms to female-associated or FAAB individuals and/or women compared with men.”
