Anonymous asked: Do you think it's possible to be a conservative and a feminist?

Interesting question.

If you’re talking about the “capital C-conservative” way of thinking—fundie Christian, anti-abortion, etc. etc.—then no. I don’t think that political outlook is compatible with feminism.

However, i don’t necessarily think that (small-c) convervative views are automatically at odds with feminist values. Believing in small governments, for example, or promoting fiscal conservatism (like Clintonomics!) doesn’t have to preclude holding feminist values and actively working towards feminist goals. 

  1. vnfm said: isnt feminism about choice? choosing to be capital-C is feminist; feminism as the movement to end sexism doesnt even get into religion or abortion stances. belief systems on the individual level arguably perpetuate feminist ideals.
