As well, when I mention that I'm a feminist to most people, they have that immediate 'Oh, you're one of -those- girls' responses. I'm not terribly good at witty comebacks, so what do you find is the best response to people who still equate feminism with bra-burning and man-hating?
I really don’t know. I know i was already interested in it by the time I was 14, but i can’t pinpoint when, how, what or why exactly. I think it just seemed obvious to me.
I can’t say i’m very good at witty comebacks, either. I think i would probably suggest going with a standard short explanation that feminism is about gender equality and so hatred really doesn’t have a part in that. And then flash them your bra?
