Anonymous asked: What do u think of shows like sex and the city where all the women do is talk about men?
Dear anon,
Sex and the City is not a show where all the women do is talk about men.
The women do lots of things other than talking: have law careers, run marathons, charity work, go to parties, have sex, eat cake out of bins, go to funerals…
And when they do talk, they talk about a fuck of a lot more than men. They talk about impotence. They talk about vulvodynia. They talk about masturbation. They talk about pregnancy scares and abortion. They talk about pregnancy. They talk about fertility. They talk about ageing; about cancer; about alzheimer’s; about sexism.
You’ve clearly not seen more than five minutes of the programme or you’d know that you are talking completely out of your arse.
What do i think of the show? I enjoy it.
Miranda is my favourite character (isn’t she most people’s?) because I find her the most relatable. Watching episodes that feature her a lot—and particularly her relationship with Steve—are the ones that i most enjoy. Real, believable thing happen to them: they conflict about class and money issues; he supports her through her mother’s death; she supports him after testicular cancer; they have an unplanned pregnancy and negotiate single parenthood; she helps him take care of his mother (who has dementia). Neither of them are perfect and the relationship there shows that people aren’t infallible.
I think Carrie is one of the most ridiculous caricatures on TV. I find her so unlikeable. Especially the fact that throughout the… like 6 or 7 seasons (??) of the show, and at least one movie, the only real hardship she ever has to face is not having long-lasting, healthy relationships. Just like everybody else. I mean, whereas Charlotte has to cope with a loveless, dysfunctional marriage and then infertility, Samantha has cancer and Miranda has all the things I listed above—all of them on top of the general trials and tribulations of dating, Carrie just has the dating.
Poor her!
But i digress.
1) You are wrong about SATC.
2) I enjoy it.

SATC talks about the things that women can’t normally talk about in society. This series demonstrated to women (old and young) that there is no such topic as taboo and that you are not alone. Samantha was my favorite. ^_^

YUUUUUUUUUUSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS Plus, context - it was a phenomenally important and innovative show at the time. It just seems dated and cliche now.
